Red Earth has a tradition of celebrating Holi with a special art show, but this time around, the spring celebrations started much well in advance, in tune with the Indian aesthetic of celebrating the season of revival, and rejuvenation. Red Earth presented Abstracts in Indian Yellow, a special exhibition to commemorate the wonderful occassion of the arrival of Spring, that opened on the day of Basant Panchami February 11, 2008, at Global Arts Village , New Delhi .

The exhibition brought together some well know Indian abstractionists (Bandeep Singh, Deepak Tandon, Dipti Pandey, Harpreet Singh, Madhuri Kathe, Mayank Mansingh Kaul, Medha Prabhakar, Prafulla Mohanti, Yogendra Tripathi, Yogesh Rawal and Yusuf) who made works in Basanti - Indian shades and hues of yellow.

The opening, on the sun-filled glorious day of Basant Panchami saw a splattering of all kinds of Indian yellows in tribute to spring. There was yellow art, yellow flowers, yellow food (a special brunch featuring salads, main course and dessert, all Basanti!). To complete this circle, as requested, the guests turned up in yellow and added to the array of yellows. All the lovely ladies were dressed in bright yellows, and the place was filled with such Basantis . The men were a bit conservative, and flouted the dress code, by turning up in black, grays and whites! Dharmendra Rathore, though turned up in a special Rajasthani paag, an apt accessory for the season.

The participants made yellow flower earrings for each other, played with yellow flowers, paid their respects to goddess Saraswati. To commemorate the Punjabi tradition of flying kites on Basant, a small band of revellers, led by Bobby Kohli, sent a spring message to the high skies above.

Red Earth's celebrations that started at Basant Panchami , will culminate in a saturation and explosion of colours and madness with a Holi show in March 2008.
